এক ভক্ত-ব্যাধের কথা শুন সাবধানে ।
যাহা হৈতে হয় সৎসঙ্গ-মহিমার জ্ঞানে ॥ ২২৯ ॥

eka bhakta-vyādhera kathā śuna sāvadhāne yāhā haite haya sat-saṅga-mahimāra jñāne

The Lord introduces the story as an example of the power of saintly association.

বনপথে দেখে মৃগ আছে ভূমে পড়ি’ ।
বাণ-বিদ্ধ ভগ্নপাদ করে ধড়্ফড়ি ॥ ২৩১ ॥

vana-pathe dekhe mṛga āche bhūme paḍi’ bāṇa-viddha bhagna-pāda kare dhaḍ-phaḍi

Nārada saw an injured deer on the forest path and was moved by its suffering.

নারদ কহে, — “অর্ধ মারিলে জীব পায় ব্যথা ।
জীবে দুঃখ দিতেছ, তোমার হইবে ঐছে অবস্থা ॥ ২৪৯ ॥

nārada kahe, — “ardha mārile jīva pāya vyathā jīve duḥkha ditecha, tomāra ha-ibe aiche avasthā

Nārada explained that leaving animals half-dead deliberately causes them pain.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya 24.254

এই পাপ যায় মোর, কেমন উপায়ে ?
নিস্তার করহ মোরে, পড়োঁ তোমার পায়ে ॥” ২৫৪ ॥

ei pāpa yāya mora, kemana upāye? nistāra karaha more, paḍoṅ tomāra pāye”

The hunter asked how to become free from the consequences of his past deeds.

ব্যাধ কহে, — ‘যেই কহ, সেই ত’ করিব’ ।
নারদ কহে, — ‘ধনুক ভাঙ্গ, তবে সে কহিব’ ॥ ২৫৬ ॥

vyādha kahe, — ‘yei kaha, sei ta’ kariba’ nārada kahe, — ‘dhanuka bhāṅga, tabe se kahiba’

The hunter agreed to follow Nārada's instructions.

ধনুক ভাঙ্গি’ ব্যাধ তাঁর চরণে পড়িল ।
তারে উঠাঞা নারদ উপদেশ কৈল ॥ ২৫৮ ॥

dhanuka bhāṅgi’ vyādha tāṅra caraṇe paḍila tāre uṭhāñā nārada upadeśa kaila

The hunter broke his bow, bowed at Nārada's feet, and Nārada raised him.

নদী-তীরে একখানি কুটীর করিয়া ।
তার আগে একপিণ্ডি তুলসী রোপিয়া ॥ ২৬০ ॥

nadī-tīre eka-khāni kuṭīra kariyā tāra āge eka-piṇḍi tulasī ropiyā

Nārada instructed him to build a cottage by the river and plant tulasī.

তুলসী-পরিক্রমা কর, তুলসী-সেবন ।

তবে সেই মৃগাদি তিনে নারদ সুস্থ কৈল ।
সুস্থ হঞা মৃগাদি তিনে ধাঞা পলাইল ॥ ২৬৩ ॥

tabe sei mṛgādi tine nārada sustha kaila sustha hañā mṛgādi tine dhāñā palāila

Nārada revived the three injured animals, who rose and ran away.

আস্তে-ব্যস্তে ধাঞা আসে, পথ নাহি পায় ।
পথের পিপীলিকা ইতি-উতি ধরে পায় ॥ ২৭০ ॥

āste-vyaste dhāñā āse, patha nāhi pāya pathera pipīlikā iti-uti dhare pāya

Later the hunter paused before bowing because ants were moving near his feet.

দণ্ডবৎ-স্থানে পিপীলিকারে দেখিয়া ।
বস্ত্রে স্থান ঝাড়ি’ পড়ে দণ্ডবৎ হঞা ॥ ২৭১ ॥

daṇḍavat-sthāne pipīlikāre dekhiyā vastre sthāna jhāḍi’ paḍe daṇḍavat hañā

He moved the ants aside with a cloth before bowing to the sages.

নারদ কহে, — “ব্যাধ, এই না হয় আশ্চর্য ।
হরিভক্ত্যে হিংসা-শূন্য হয় সাধুবর্য ॥ ২৭২ ॥

nārada kahe, — “vyādha, ei nā haya āścarya hari-bhaktye hiṁsā-śūnya haya sādhu-varya

Nārada praised his nonviolent conduct as natural for one advancing in devotion.

এই ত’ কহিলুঁ তোমায় ব্যাধের আখ্যান ।
যা শুনিলে হয় সাধুসঙ্গ-প্রভাব-জ্ঞান ॥ ২৮২ ॥

ei ta’ kahiluṅ tomāya vyādhera ākhyāna yā śunile haya sādhu-saṅga-prabhāva-jñāna

The Lord concludes that this story shows the influence of saintly association.
