Lord Kṛṣṇa bestows mercy upon King Mucukunda

Lord Kṛṣṇa bestows mercy upon King Mucukunda
Mercy to a devotee ŚB 10.51.22–63
Lord Kṛṣṇa bestows mercy upon King Mucukunda

Pramāṇa (Śāstra reference)

ŚB 10.51.22 states that after Kālayavana was reduced to ashes, the Lord revealed Himself to wise Mucukunda. Verses 10.51.23–26 describe His radiant four-armed form in detail: a dark-blue body, yellow silk, the Śrīvatsa mark, the Kaustubha gem, a Vaijayantī garland, makara-shaped earrings, and an affectionate smiling glance. In 10.51.42 Kṛṣṇa says that He personally came to the cave to show mercy to His devotee, and in 10.51.43 He offers the king benedictions. Mucukunda bows and recognizes the Lord (10.51.44), rejects material boons, asks only to serve His lotus feet, and takes shelter of Him (10.51.54–57). The Lord praises the king’s pure determination and grants him unfailing devotion (10.51.58–61). The illustration joins the Lord’s revelation and Mucukunda’s bow in one visible moment. The king’s appearance, the cave’s structure, the Lord’s hand gestures, and the rays of light are artistic reconstruction; the small patch of ashes in the distance represents the event of verse 10.51.22.

Saṅkṣepa (short meaning)

Awakening after his long sleep, King Mucukunda opens his eyes and beholds radiant, four-armed Lord Kṛṣṇa. The Lord explains that He came to the cave to show mercy to His devotee and offers the king any benediction. Mucukunda asks for neither kingdom nor pleasure: he desires only service to the Lord’s lotus feet and His shelter. Kṛṣṇa accepts the king’s pure prayer and grants him unfailing devotion.
