Pramāṇa (Śāstra reference)

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, Chapters 13-14 and the Skanda Purāṇa, Puruṣottama-kṣetra-māhātmya describe how every year in Jagannātha Purī, Lord Jagannātha, Lord Baladeva and Subhadrā Devī leave Their temple and travel on Their magnificent chariots to the Guṇḍicā Temple. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu personally dances before Lord Jagannātha while thousands of devotees loudly chant the holy names.

Saṅkṣepa (short meaning)

This is one of the most confidential pastimes described in Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava literature. Externally, Lord Jagannātha rides from His temple to the Guṇḍicā Temple during the great Ratha-yātrā festival. Internally, this journey represents the deepest mood of divine love. Lord Jagannātha is Kṛṣṇa residing in Dvārakā, while Guṇḍicā represents Vṛndāvana. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu dances before the chariot in the ecstatic mood of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, longing to bring Kṛṣṇa back to Vṛndāvana, where pure spontaneous love reaches its highest perfection. Lord Jagannātha mercifully leaves His temple so that everyone, regardless of birth, social status or qualification, may receive His darśana and mercy.
