Vibhishana-saranagati-lila — Vibhishana surrenders to Lord Rama
Valmiki Ramayana, Yuddha-kanda — Vibhishana leaves Lanka and surrenders to Lord Rama, who grants him shelter despite opposition.

Pramāṇa (scriptural source)

Valmiki Ramayana, Yuddha-kanda — the episode of Vibhishana leaving Lanka, approaching Lord Rama for shelter, and being accepted by Him.

Saṅkṣepa (short meaning)

When Vibhishana, the righteous brother of Ravana, can no longer tolerate adharma, he leaves Lanka and comes before Lord Rama with folded hands, seeking refuge. Although others question whether he should be trusted, Lord Rama immediately declares that anyone who sincerely surrenders unto Him must be protected. This lila reveals the Lord’s boundless mercy: true shelter is granted not by birth, position, or past association, but by genuine surrender.

Śāstra-pramāṇa (proof from śāstra)

Vibhishana abandons Ravana’s side after rejecting unrighteous counsel and comes to Lord Rama for refuge.
Vibhishana, seeing Ravana's persistent adharma, crossed the ocean and surrendered at Rama's feet.
The vanaras discuss whether he should be accepted, but Lord Rama speaks decisively in favor of giving shelter.
Lord Rama declared, "I grant protection to anyone who seeks shelter, even if they come with evil intent, let alone a virtuous soul like Vibhishana."
Lord Rama accepts Vibhishana and grants him protection, showing His vow to protect one who sincerely surrenders.
Rama embraced Vibhishana and said, "I promise safety to all beings who surrender to Me. Vibhishana is now worthy of ruling Lanka."

Tattva (essential teaching)

The Lord is the protector of one who takes sincere shelter.
Lord Rama protects Vibhishana solely because of his sincere surrender, regardless of his family ties.
Surrender is higher than material loyalty to family, politics, or fear.
Vibhishana chose dharma and surrender to Rama over loyalty to his demon brother Ravana.
Dharma may require leaving the side of the powerful when they oppose the will of the Lord.
One must abandon even one's own family if they stand against the Lord and His principles.
The Lord sees the heart: sincere refuge outweighs previous circumstances.
Vibhishana's past as Ravana's brother did not matter; his humble heart made him eligible for Rama's mercy.
