Pramāṇa (scriptural source)
Valmiki Ramayana, Yuddha-kanda — the episode of Vibhishana leaving Lanka, approaching Lord Rama for shelter, and being accepted by Him.
Saṅkṣepa (short meaning)
When Vibhishana, the righteous brother of Ravana, can no longer tolerate adharma, he leaves Lanka and comes before Lord Rama with folded hands, seeking refuge. Although others question whether he should be trusted, Lord Rama immediately declares that anyone who sincerely surrenders unto Him must be protected. This lila reveals the Lord’s boundless mercy: true shelter is granted not by birth, position, or past association, but by genuine surrender.
Śāstra-pramāṇa (proof from śāstra)
Vibhishana abandons Ravana’s side after rejecting unrighteous counsel and comes to Lord Rama for refuge.
The vanaras discuss whether he should be accepted, but Lord Rama speaks decisively in favor of giving shelter.
Lord Rama accepts Vibhishana and grants him protection, showing His vow to protect one who sincerely surrenders.
Tattva (essential teaching)
The Lord is the protector of one who takes sincere shelter.
Surrender is higher than material loyalty to family, politics, or fear.
Dharma may require leaving the side of the powerful when they oppose the will of the Lord.
The Lord sees the heart: sincere refuge outweighs previous circumstances.
