Garuda frees Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa — exact verses
Two passages in one lila: the binding of the brothers in Sarga 44 and their release by Garuda in Sarga 50 of Yuddha-kāṇḍa.
Indrajit binds the brothers with serpent-arrows
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 6.44.36–39
rāmaṃ ca lakṣmaṇaṃ caiva ghorair nāgamayaiḥ śaraiḥ / bibheda samare kruddhaḥ sarvagātreṣu rāghavau // 6.44.36 //
māyayā saṃvṛtas tatra mohayan rāghavau yudhi / adṛśyo niśitān bāṇān mumocāśanivarcasaḥ / babandha śarabandhena bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau // 6.44.37 //
Hidden by illusion and invisible, Indrajit pierces Rama and Lakshmana with terrible arrows in serpent form and binds the two brothers in an entanglement of arrows.
Garuda drives away the serpents and heals the brothers
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 6.50.36–41
tato muhūrtād garuḍaṃ vainateyaṃ mahābalam / vānarā dadṛśuḥ sarve jvalantam iva pāvakam // 6.50.36 //
tam āgatam abhiprekṣya nāgās te vipradudruvuḥ / yais tau satpuruṣau baddhau śarabhūtair mahābalau // 6.50.37 //
tataḥ suparṇaḥ kākutsthau dṛṣṭvā pratyabhinandya ca / vimamarśa ca pāṇibhyāṃ mukhe candrasamaprabhe // 6.50.38 //
The vanaras see mighty Garuda shining like blazing fire. The serpents that had become arrows flee. Garuda touches the brothers’ faces with his hands; their wounds heal, their powers are redoubled, and he lifts them up.
