Pramāṇa (Śāstra reference)
Chaitanya-caritamrita, Adi-lila and Madhya-lila, and Chaitanya-bhagavata describe how, during His pilgrimage to Gaya, Sri Nimai Pandita meets Srila Isvara Puri, accepts him as His spiritual master, and receives the Gopala-mantra. From that moment His divine ecstatic love for Sri Krishna manifests openly.
Saṅkṣepa (short meaning)
This lila marks the great turning point in the earthly pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Although He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He teaches by His own example that one must approach a bona fide spiritual master with humility and receive transcendental knowledge through disciplic succession. After receiving initiation from Srila Isvara Puri in Gaya, Nimai’s love for Krishna manifests with extraordinary intensity, preparing the world for the gift of the holy name and sankirtana. The Lord demonstrates that accepting shelter of guru is the beginning of genuine spiritual life.
