Pramāṇa (Śāstra reference)
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Araṇya-kāṇḍa, Sargas 50–52 — when Ravana abducts Sita, Jatayu confronts him in the sky, rebukes him for adharma, and fights to rescue her. In the combat, Jatayu breaks Ravana’s bow and chariot, kills the chariot’s mules, and strikes down the charioteer, before Ravana finally cuts him down.
Saṅkṣepa (short meaning)
This lila reveals the glory of selfless devotion and righteous courage. Jatayu, though aged and facing a far stronger enemy, cannot tolerate the abduction of Sita and rises at once to defend her. He does not fight for fame, victory, or personal gain, but out of loyalty to Lord Rama and out of dharma. His battle shows that true devotion expresses itself in fearless service, even at the cost of one’s own life.
