Saṅkṣepa (concise narration)
During pralaya, sage Mārkaṇḍeya is surrounded by the endless waters of dissolution. By the Lord’s mystic potency, he beholds a wondrous sight: baby Nārāyaṇa reclining on a banyan leaf, radiant and peaceful amid the cosmic storm. Struck with awe and devotion, Mārkaṇḍeya realizes that the Supreme Lord alone is the shelter beyond time—the One who remains when everything else is withdrawn. This līlā teaches that the Lord’s presence is the true refuge, and that His mercy can reveal transcendence even in the midst of fear and uncertainty.

Tattva (what this lila teaches)
The Lord is the ultimate āśraya: beyond creation and dissolution, He is the only permanent shelter.
Māyā is the Lord’s potency: He can reveal or conceal reality according to His will.
Fear is conquered by shelter: remembrance of the Lord steadies the heart in any situation.
Darśana is mercy: revelation is granted by the Lord’s grace, not forced by effort.
