Uddhava‑sandeśa‑līlā

Uddhava-sandeśa-līlā — Uddhava brings Kṛṣṇa's message to the gopīs in Vraja
Śāstra‑mārga Uddhava‑sandeśa‑līlā
उद्धव-सन्देश-लीला / Uddhava–gopī-saṁvāda
Uddhava brings Kṛṣṇa's message to the gopīs in Vraja

Saṅkṣepa (concise narration)

In Vraja, Uddhava arrives as Kṛṣṇa's messenger. He meets the gopīs, whose hearts burn in loving separation. Hearing of Kṛṣṇa, they speak with deep devotion—tears, longing, and unwavering love—showing that pure bhakti does not diminish even when the Lord is unseen. Uddhava witnesses the supreme glory of Vraja-prema.

"In separation from You, our hearts are constantly burning, yet we cannot forget You. This is the power of Your affection — even in separation, You remain within our hearts."
— Śrīmad‑Bhāgavatam 10.47

Śāstra‑pramāṇa (scriptural proof)

ŚB 10.46 — Kṛṣṇa sends Uddhava to Vraja
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
uddhava tvam vrajaṁ gaccha
māmakānāṁ ca vāñchitam
kuruṣva prema-saṁvāsaṁ
sva-janānāṁ ca māṁ kuru Translation: The Supreme Lord said: My dear Uddhava, please go to Vraja and fulfill the desires of My devotees. Reunite them in loving exchange and make Me present among My own people.
ŚB 10.47.17 — The gopīs' prayer in separation
vayaṁ tvayābhihitā bhūri-bhāgā
bhajasva māṁ bhakta-varaṁ vareṇyam
na vāṅ manaḥ kāya-kṛtāni vā te
kṛtāni nopakramituṁ kṣamāmahe Translation: O greatly fortunate one! You have told us, “Engage in My devotional service, O best of devotees, for I am the most worshipable.” But we cannot begin to serve You through words, mind, or body.
ŚB 10.47.58 — Uddhava glorifies the gopīs
aho batāścarya-vidhāḥ kṛṣṇasya
premātmano yoga-ratasya dhīraḥ
ye 'ṅga striyaḥ prāṇam imaṁ jahus te
gatāḥ paramaṁ dhāma diviṣad-varāḥ Translation: Oh, how wonderful are the activities of Kṛṣṇa, the soul of love, absorbed in yoga yet steady! These women gave up their very lives for Him and attained the supreme abode, which even great sages desire.
ŚB 10.47.61 — Uddhava prays for the gopīs' dust
śirāṁsi yeṣāṁ nija-pāda-renu-
pūjāṁ vyadhur yā madhu-dhviṣaś ca
te 'pīśvarasya priya-cāraṇasya
vayaṁ kathaṁ vā śaraṇaṁ vrajema Translation: Those whose heads were decorated with the dust of Kṛṣṇa's lotus feet—dust which even Lord Śiva and other great personalities worship—how can we take shelter of anyone but Him, the Supreme Lord who performs such charming pastimes?

Tattva (what this lila teaches)

Vipralambha-bhakti is powerful: separation intensifies remembrance and love. (SB 10.47)
Vraja-prema is the highest standard of devotion: beyond calculation. (SB 10.47)
The Lord's devotees are His true wealth: He sends help and guidance to protect their bhakti. (SB 10.46)

Sevā today (simple practice)

1) Chant with remembrance
Chant one attentive round, praying: “Let me remember You even in separation.”
2) Study the gopīs' devotion
Read a few verses from SB 10.47 and note one quality of the gopīs you want to follow.
3) Serve quietly
Do one quiet act of service without seeking recognition—offer it to Kṛṣṇa in the mood of Vraja.
"aho bata śva-paco 'to garīyān
yaj-jihvāgre vartate nāma tubhyam
tepus tapas te juhuvuḥ sasnur āryā
brahmānūcur nāma gṛṇanti ye te"

O how glorious are they whose tongues are chanting Your holy name! Even if born in the families of dog-eaters, they are worshipable. Persons who chant the holy name of Your Lordship must have performed all kinds of austerities and fire sacrifices and achieved all the good manners of the Āryans. To be chanting the holy name of Your Lordship, they must have bathed at all the holy places of pilgrimage, studied the Vedas, and fulfilled everything required.

— Śrīmad‑Bhāgavatam 3.33.7
